OVERVIEW
The International Academy for Sciences & Advanced Management Training in collaboration with the United Nation Association-Sudan (member of WFUNA*– New York) is organizing a diploma course on “United Nations Studies”.
The United Nations (UN) is the largest multilateral organization in the world. The UN was established in 1945 with the mission of promoting peace and security worldwide. The United Nations has grown and evolved in significant ways since its establishment and is now charged with confronting a wide range of global challenges and threats, including mass atrocities, poverty, hunger, disease, and climate change.
As an increasingly globalized world continues to underline the importance of multilateral dialogue and cooperation in confronting this century’s challenges, the UN will remain a platform for action and a central forum for countries to pursue their national interests and a mechanism for fulfilling collective goals. The United Nations has also served as a vital arena for international diplomacy. This international organization has become the centrepiece of world order, playing a preeminent role in issues of international peace and security, social and economic development, climate change, human rights and humanitarian affairs.
The aim of this update and comprehensive course is to provide useful insights about the United Nations, its structure, objectives, organization, and its affiliated agencies.
On successful completion of the six- months distance education course, certificate is awarded to successful candidates. Certificate offered by The International Academy is academic training certification on the competence in the subjects.

OUTCOME
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Provide overview of the history and origin of the United Nations.
- Learn about the objectives and principles of the UN
- Acquire knowledge of the structure of the UN and its Main organs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the UN system, its functioning and overall structure including a review of major affiliated programmes and funds, specialized agencies and others.
- Identify major global issues and explore how the UN is responding to emerging global challenges in sustainable development, human rights, peace and security and humanitarian assistance.
COURSE CONTENT AND STRUCTURE
The Course consists of Compulsory Subjects and Optional Subjects as mentioned under the Syllabus.
Compulsory Subjects:
The candidate is required to attempt Two Question Papers from the Compulsory Subjects.
Optional Subjects:
The participant has to choose four optional subjects from:
- Section I – Specialized Agencies.
- Section II – UN Funds and Programmes.
- Section III – Functional Commissions.
There is a total of six Papers; two from Compulsory Subjects and four on Optional Subjects. Each selected Optional Subject shall be covered by a Question Paper to be attempted by the participant. Each Question Paper is of 100 Marks, making a total of 600 Marks. The participant requires 70% Marks for the First Division, 60% for Second Division and 50% for a pass. Participants will be eligible to receive a certificate after the successful completion of the course.
COURSE FEES:
Course fee: 400 $
- In special cases the fee can be paid in two installments of 2,000 SDG each.
- For overseas students total fee is US$ 300 only (including Postal charges). The total fee is payable in advance at the time of enrollment.
- If a candidate does not pass the examination at the first attempt, he/she can avail two more chances. The Additional fee payable is US$ 100 for each subsequent examination.
- Fees once paid cannot be returned under any circumstances.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION
All those interested to acquire detailed knowledge of the constitutional set up and working of the United Nations and its Specialized Agencies are welcome for admission.
The minimum educational qualification for admission is a Pass in the Sudanese Higher Secondary School or equivalent examination.
Since the course will be conducted in English, participants must have a good level of English proficiency.
ORGANIZATION AND REGULATIONS
- The course duration is six months.
- The six months semester commences on the first of every month. Student can enroll in any semester.
- The course consists of programmed lessons and examination designed for distance education.
- The medium of instruction is English.
- The examination will be at The International Academy for Sciences and Advanced Management Training premises or other venue that would be decided later. The exam duration is 3 hours for each paper.
- In special cases the student can sit for the exam online after completing the procedures.
- In case a candidate does not succeed in the first attempt, a second chance will be given. In any case a candidate shall have to clear the course within one year.
- The period of Six Months for the course can be extended in exceptional cases, for which the student has to apply; supported by the official documents; to the Director of the Academy for necessary permission.
- The result shall be declared within one month from the date of the exam and Diploma shall be given to the successful candidates shortly thereafter.
